Session #103 · 1993–95

Speech #1030074032

Another situation that I find troubling is that the INS recently conducted a citizenship ceremony in Tucson. AZ primarily In Spanish. This Is ridiculous. We must require the Immigration and Naturalization Service to conduct their citizenship ceremonies In English. In addition. a high school student in San Diego. CA. who recently won a $28.000ayear scholarship to the University of Chicago. could not produce proof of citizenship to the university admissions office. It was revealed that the student came to the United States from Mexico 13 years ago and has never been documented. INS officials have said that because of the students good grades. he will likely be allowed to stay in the United States.
