Mr. Speaker. I rise before you today to discuss a topic that has received a great deal of media coverage lately. I am referring to the Issue of Immigration. and more specifically. to that of asylum reform. The American people have realized that the current system Is highly Inadequate and their call for change has echoed loudly throughout Capital Hill and the country. Much of this demand for reform. however. may be based on misinformation about the problems with the current system. Mr. Speaker. Id like to submit an editorial from last weeks New York Times for the RECORD. Not only does it do an excellent job of pointing out the fundamental problems of the American asylum system. but it provides sensible recommendations for just and equitable reform of the United States asylum system.
