I have received many letters from constituents who volunteer their time as foster grandparents. through what is currently known as the Foster Grandparent Program. They gain great pleasure from their work with small children in need of special attention. Volunteers serve as grandparents to disabled children. drug exposed infants and toddlers. immigrants and many other young people. The Foster Grandparent Program helps children gain selfesteem and selfworth. while at the same time giving volunteers the satisfaction of knowing they can be useful to their community at all stages In their lives. If passed. the Foster Grandparent Program and other older American volunteer programs will be authorized by the National Service Trust Act.
