Speech #1030046768

Mr. Speaker. I was astounded to read a newspaper report from Tucson. AZ reporting that on July 2. the Immigration and Naturalization Service plans to swear In 75 Immigrants In Spanishyes. they will be sworn in as U.S. citizens. not in English. but in Spanish. The judge who will conduct the ceremony is quoted as saying. "Even though the new citizens can speak and understand English. the ceremony is more meaningful to them in Spanish." Mr. Speaker. when an individual leaves his or her native homeland and comes to AmerIca. that individual Is taking new steps. The swearingin ceremony Is the beginning of a new life as an American.
