Session #103 · 1993–95

Speech #1030040983

Mr. Speaker. Presidont Clintons recent decision to deny a visa to Gerry Adams. the president of Sinn Fein. the oldest political party In Ireland. was a blatant betrayal of a campaign pledge. I was present In New York City on April 5. 1992. when candidate Clinton assured IrishAmerican leaders that as President he would allow Mr. Adams to enter the United States. The Presidents decision to yield to State Department anglophiles victimizes not only Mr. Adams but. more Importantly. the American people who will be denied the opportunity to hear directly from the head of one of the leading political parties in Irelands occupied six counties.
