I do wish to commend the chairman and ranking member of the Appropriations Committee for taking a big step in the right budgeting direction by paying for the programs they have decided are their priority. So many times this House simply spends money and either raises taxes or ups the deficit instead of making the tough choices necessary for living within our means. Among the good amendments presented in the Rules Committee that were not allowed under this rule was a proposal to ensure that none of the money in this bill be spent for programs for illegal aliens. That is an important issue for all America. and especially in South Florida. We have estimates that Federal Programs are being spent on services for illegal aliens to the tune of $5.4 billion a year. It is a shame this amendment will not be allowed. And the list goes on.
