Twothirds of the eligible voters actually made it to the polls in the last election. I have heard a number of arguments raised by the opponents of this bill over the last week. One is that motorvoter will lead to fraud. Washington State does have a significant population of nonU.S. citizens. and after processing 230.000 registrations. Washington States secretary of state. a Republican. tells me that he sees absolutely no evidence of noncitizens registering to vote. I am concerned that this argument really is just another scare tactic to keep legitimate voters away from our polls. I think we have to ask ourselves. are we afraid of voter fraud or voter participation?
