Session #103 · 1993–95

Speech #1030011707

This occasion gives every Member of Congress an opportunity to question human rights for women in this country and around the world. Women. predominantly in the developing world. continue to endure the cruelest human rights abuses. often under the guise of cultural norms. In August of 1991. I had the opportunity through my work on the Judiciary Committees Subcommittee on International Law. Immigration and Refugees to visit several refugee camps In Asia and the Middle East. In northern Thailand. I observed rampant prostitution. perhaps the cruelest human rights abuse. that was very much a part of this regions culture and economy.
