Mr. President. I support the amendment offered by the Senator from Oklahoma. This amendment codifies the existing policy. which prohibits individuals who test HIVpositive from obtaining permanent immigration status in the United States. until a Presidential report can be completed in September. I support this amendment because. if the current policy is changed. my home State of Florida will be forced to bear a disproportionate portion of the burden. Florida already has the third highest AIDS population in the United States. Florida hospitals. and specifically institutions in the greater MiamiFort Lauderdale area. are already overburdened trying to care for Florida residents living with AIDS.
