I rise today to recognize the 100th anniversary of the D.A. Sokol movement which originated in New York on March 14. 1892. The centennial celebration will be held on November 15. 1992. to commemorate this memorable occasion. The development of the D.A. Sokol plan was strongly influenced by the repressive measures of European governments in the 1800s. The revolts of the 1800s in Europe convinced many people to leave their European homes and emigrate to the United States. In the 1890s those emigrants who had arrived from what was then Bohemia. formed a workingmens gymnastic association called D.A. Sokol. Mr.
