The Olympic coins raised more than $75 million to stage the 1984 games in Los Angeles and provided training for thousands of young men and women athletes and coaches. He also was instrumental in seeking passage of a commemorative coin bill to raise funds for the Olympics to be held in Atlanta in 1996. The Statute of Liberty coin in 1986 raised $73 million to restore the monument and the immigration facilities on Ellis Island.
