Session #102 · 1991–93

Speech #1020221761

Mr. President. as chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Refugee Affairs. I want to report to my colleagues. as required by the Refugee Act of 1980. on the Judiciary Committees consultation with the Presidents representatives on the admission of refugees for 1993. After regular meetings during the year. and after a formal hearing of the committee in July. the committee has now concluded the consultations and agrees with the Presidents proposal. Our greatest concern during this period was that the Presidents proposed budget was simply not adequate to support the admission levels he had proposed. However. thanks to the leadership of the Appropriations Committee. particularly Senator HARKIN. with whom we have worked closely. and Congressman NATCHER. we believe the appropriations will In the end be sufficient to fund the Presidents proposal.
