Ignatius Catholic Church in Bel Air in my district was laid in 1791 at the time the First Congress voted for the Bill of Rights. The church was completed in 1792 after the States had ratified the 10 amendments. The new Americans. among them our own Marylanders. had suffered persecutions or were the children of those who had. and I identify with them. My own religion. eastern Orthodox. is a minority religion in this country. My ancestors in Serbia suffered persecution at the hands of the Ottomans for hundreds of tragic years. and I grew up hearing these stories from my immigrant parents. Mr. Speaker. yes. we should reaffirm this belief.
