Speaker. today I would like to welcome the Croatian American Association and its supporters to Washington. DC. for Croatian Days on the Hill. This gathering of CroatianAmericans in our Nations Capital today Is extremely timely. given the increasing need for refugee housing and disaster relief In Croatia and BosniaHercegovina. and the distressing news today from Sarajevo. In one of the worst days since the beginning of the war In this besieged city. over 20 people were killed and at least 60 wounded when Serbian forces bombarded the citys defenseless population with artillery hidden from international observers. This Serbian offensive. together with infantry and artillery attacks by Serbian nationalists in other Bosnian cities. represents a disturbing pattern of intensified Serbian assaults on the eve of scheduled peace talks.
