The month of May has been chosen in order to recognize Golden Spike Day. May 10. 1869. when the first transcontinental railroad in the United States was completed with significant contributions from Chinese American pioneers and to commemorate May 7. 1843 when the first Japanese immigrants arrived in the United States. Over the years. these loyal Americans have achieved prominence in science. the arts and architecture. education. business. and politics at all levels. They have helped make our country the great Nation that it is today. yet all too often even those who were born and raised here are treated as foreigners.
