Why would this happen to a man who led an exemplary life in this country since 1984? Why would it happen to a man who had not even gotten a traffic ticket in his 8 years in the United States? These are good questions. The INS warrant for his arrest charged Gildernew with fraud. It is alleged he had committed fraud in applying for his green card when he answered "no" to the question of whether he had ever been convicted of a crime of moral turpitude in his home country. And why did he answer "No"? Because he believed he had been a political prisoner. even under Britains own rules.
