Session #102 · 1991–93

Speech #1020164722

This great Nation was founded on the principles of justice. equality. freedom. respect. As Members of Congress in these United States. we must take a strong stand against bigotry and discrimination. Let us not forget how our country. only 50 years ago. slipped into a moment of darkness when we Interned our fellow Americans because of their Japanese ancestry and our suspicion of their loyalty to a nation they have never visited. Mr. Speaker. America was built by Immigrants. Immigrants from the Western and Eastern Hemispheres. The fabric of American society burst with a rainbow of vibrant hues. A strike against one group Is a strike against us all.
