Once again. I commend the extraordinary bipartisan commitment on behalf of Senators and their staff to bring this bill to the floor. In particular. I appreciate the skillful work of Michael Myers on Senators KENNEDYS immigration staff and my former staff member. Curtis Hem. Finally. Mr. President. I would like to remind my colleagues that this bill represents another type of opportunity that we rarely enjoy these days. So often during this election year. our efforts on economic growth. health care reform. and the budget deficit have been frustrated by our inability to produce meaningful results. No doubt the numerous announcements of early retirements in both Chambers reflect the sense felt by many that we can no longer make a positive difference.
