I understand and appreciate these concerns and believe we must work to get relations with Israel back on track. As one who has worked very hard over the years to win the freedom of persecuted Jews from the Soviet Union. Ethiopia. and other countries. I very moved by the arrival of waves of Immigrants in Israel. These people are refugees. possessing very little and having endured years of oppression. uncertainty. and the threat of violence. They are looking to the United States for the help they need to begin new lives in freedom. Clearly. the massive influx of Soviet Jews presents great opportunities and challenges for the Israeli people.
