The Greek revolution that began 171 years ago continues to Instill in us a sense of pride. and gives us hope for present and future fighters of tyranny and oppression. San Francisco. with its proud. ethnic diversity. has a vibrant Greek community which greatly contributes to the unique fabric of the city. Over 3 million Greek immigrants have come to the United States. and have made significant contributions to all aspects of AmerIcan life since their first migrations to this country. Our country. and all of Western civilization. is deeply rooted in the principles of Greek civilization. As Shelley wrote. "We are all Greeksl Our laws. our literature. our religion. our art. have their roots in Greece." Again.
