I became involved in this in a very personal way In January of this year when I was afforded an opportunity to travel with a delegation to visit the shattered Republic of wartorn Croatia and witnessed the situation firsthand. What I saw there is why I am here today and why I have asked my colleagues to come together in this effort. and why I am so committed to this important cause. What I saw in those few days was chilling and frightening. The reality of this war reached my heart when I arrived in Croatia and met the refugees. They are frightened and confused. Few could speak without tears that did not stop.
