Session #102 · 1991–93

Speech #1020143144

March 14. 1992. was the observance of Shabbat Zachor. the Sabbath of Remembrance for Syrian Jews. The plight of the Syrian Jews is well known. The Syrian Government does not allow the Syrian Jews the right to emigrate. and denies them the most basic human and civil rights. This is an intolerable situation. I Joined a number of my colleagues in October of 1990 in a letter to President Bush concerning the plight of Syrian Jews. Sadly. their situation has changed little since that letter. With the end of the cold war. and the removal of many barriers to emigrate from the Soviet Union. it is ironic that similar restrictive. oppressive practices continue to this day in Syria. No one.
