Mr. President. it is with great pleasure that I announce to you the 100th anniversary of St. Adalberts Parish. in Queens County. NY. St. Adalberts was founded as a parish in November 1892 by a small group of Polish immigrants seeking the "American dream." The reason for the founding of this parish. at least at the beginning. was to respond to the needs of the Polishspeaking people of Elmhurst. Maspeth. and the surrounding areas. In 1896. the Conventional Franciscan Friars were asked by the bishop to administer the parish and have been doing so ever since. Today St. Adalberts parish is a veritable melting pot of culture. ethnic diversity. and deeprooted Catholic beliefs in God and country.
