I rise in strong support of the Goss amendment. Mr. Chairman. I support the amendment offered by my colleague. Mr. Goss. Many of the Haitian refugees that have been given the opportunity to seek political asylum. will settle in Florida. It simply is not fair for the people of Florida to shoulder the entire burden of refugees without help from the Federal Government. As a matter of fact. Florida Is still owed for expenses incurred during the Mariel boatlilt. The message of the President must be clear. The Federal Government has a responsibility to share the cost of caring for Haitian refugees.
