We thought that if they were coming. that was what they were going to do with us. too. After all. we Lithuanian Jews were no better than any other Jewish population. But as the tanks slowed down and we looked more carefully out our windows. we saw the red stars and know these were not the Germans but the Russians. This account of the Russian Invasion of Lithuania was written by Harry Gordon in his book "The Shadow of Death. the Holocaust in Lithuania." Harry spent his childhood In Kovno. Lithuania and emigrated to the United States in 1949. He currently resides in Madison. WI. a city at the heart of my congressional district.
