Session #102 · 1991–93

Speech #1020132142

Why do we continue to have to pay for their security so they can close their markets to us and then come and beat us over the head with unfair trade practices? I do not want to close the markets at all. I just want them to open their markets to the extent that we open our markets to them. I am tired of hearingwell. I do not know what word you would call them. but these people who are screaming that that is xenophobia. it is Japanbashing or Europebashing or protectionism. It is not at all. Nobody here is calling for higher tariffs. nobody here is calling for nontariff trade barriers. nobody is calling for anything except fair play.
