It has destroyed Croatian villages. creating hundreds of thousands of refugees. and in the last few weeks has been heavily shelling the magnificent walled city of Dubrovnik. with its irreplaceable treasures of Byzantine. Gothic. and Renaissance art and architecture. After an 11week siege. the Croatian city of Vukovar was captured by the army this week amid widespread reports of atrocities and with the town itself almost completely leveled.
