Mr. Speaker. I rise to recognize my constituent. Ms. Frinna Awerbuch. a refugee from World War II. who. since her emigration from Russia to the United States. has dedicated her career to instructing New Yorks most talented young pianists. More than two decades ago. Ms. Awerbuch founded an International piano competition which offers monetary prizes to rising pianists as well as an opportunity for the winner to perform In prestigious Carnegie Hall. As a result of her efforts. young pianists from across the United States have excelled and established stellar careers. Ms. Awerbuch arranges for the competitors to offer free concerts open to the public so that New Yorkers of modest means may have the opportunity to hear quality classical music.
