Session #102 · 1991–93

Speech #1020111886

Why are the British forcing these poor people to return. against their will. to Vietnam? How can we sit back while they deny freedom to the boat people? The forced deportation of the Vietnamese boat people is a reprehensible policy that must end immediately. If sent back to the totalitarian regime of Vietnam. the boat people will encounter rampant human rights abuses. The refugees will be subject to forced resettlement. political reeducation. forced labor. and discrimination in a wide variety of areas including employment. education and social services. The United States. built on the tenets of freedom and democracy cannot allow those who seek these inalienable rights to be thrown back into this barbaric nation. The British authorities in Hong Kong must stop the forced return of the Vietnamese boat people to the brutal Communist Vietnamese system.
