We can also take great pride in the accomplishments of the many outstanding men and women of Italian descent who have enriched our country and lives. New Yorkers will never forget Fiorello LaGuardia. who was the beloved mayor of New York City for 11 years. In 1986. Antonin Scalia was confirmed as an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Also. Enrico Fermi was the winner of the 1938 Noble prize for physics. In the world of sports. we will never forget the immortal Joe DiMaggio. As the grandson of Italian immigrants. I am proud of my heritage and cultural background. America is truly a melting pot of cultures and that is what makes our country so unique and great.
