Mr. President. of the economic strain that the flood of Soviet Jewry has placed on the Israeli economy. In the past 2 years. over 300.000 Soviet Jews have emigrated to Israel. most of them coming in desperate need of financial support. As someone who has worked hard and consistently over the years to press the Soviet Government to allow the free emigration of Jews to Israel. I believe it is important that the emigration continue unimpeded and that the United States help Israel in its efforts to resettle these families and individuals. We have already begun to aid the Israel directly with this problem. Last year. above and beyond the more than $3 billion in aid we give to Israel.
