Mr. Speaker. I rise today to pay special tribute a special person. Mike Masaru Masaoka. I would also like to extend my deepest sympathy to Mikes family arid our colleague and Mikes brotherinlaw. NORMAN MINETA. Mikes loss Is being felt especially hard in my district of San Francisco. Mike Masaoka was a true champion and fighter for civil rights for all Americans In the United States. Born in Fresno. CA. he was one of eight children born to a farmer who had immigrated to this country from Hiroshima. Japan. During World War II. Mike Masaoka enlisted in the Army and was one of the original members of the 442d Regimental Combat Team. made up of JapaneseAmericans.
