Session #102 · 1991–93

Speech #1020062710

English boasts a membership 400.000 strong and plays a leadership role In the movement to establish English as our national language. We must follow Senator Hayakawas example and join the fight to prevent the segregation of our society along language lines. We live in a land of immlgrants--immigrants who came to our great Nation in search of a better life. Without a command of the English language. the children of these immigrants will be unable to fulfill their versions of the American dream. Without an understanding of English. they will find full school curricula Inaccessible and will be segregated from their English speaking classmates. The majority of the children served by the current bilingual system are Hispanic.
