Session #102 · 1991–93

Speech #1020056458

Another critic who spoke of the luxury they lived in was seriously wounded. Leaders of the Kuwaiti resistance are justifiably concerned with the censorship restrictions on political activity and the foot dragging in restoring the 1962 constitution. in fact. the absence of even discussion about reforms and. of course. the absolute dead silence on the part of the Government on extending suffrage to women. Refugees returning from Iraq and other countries are bitter because of the callous treatment. even the indifference they got from governmental officials and the lack of food and water and transportation. Those Kuwaitis and aliens who showed far more courage than the ruling family. who remained during the cruel Iraqi occupation. are subjected now to arbitrary arrest and mistreatment by Kuwaiti soldiers and police. The steady consolidation of power by the Emir and his pampered family since 1986. when he suspended the National Assembly. continues. and it alarms the people of Kuwait.
