Mr. President. earlier this month. Gundar King. a Latvian and dean of the Business School at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma. spoke in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the deportation of citizens living in Estonia. Latvia. and Lithuania to the Soviet Union. The experience of Mr. Kings family during the Soviets incorporation of the Baltic nations details a few of the many crimes in this region that the Soviets have not acknowledged. As we push to strengthen independence movements in the Baltics. we should follow Mr. Kings advice by pressuring the Soviets to recognize the victims of this deportation. With such a gesture. the Soviets could assure us of their intentions in resolving all conflicts with the Baltic States. I ask to insert Mr.
