I am pleased to join the senior Senator from Hawaii . the Senator form Indiana . and the Senator from Connecticut in introducing this resolution extending our support to the Government and people of the Philippines in the wake of Mount Pinatubos violent eruption. Mr. President. the eruption of Mount Pinatubo. which began on June 9. 1991. has killed at least 150 people and forced at least 200.000 residents to abandon their homes and seek shelter in crowded. makeshift refugee centers. Even today. the volcano continues to spew ash. adding to the blanket already covering thousands of square miles on Luzon Island. The 300.000 residents of Olongabo are suffering from shortages of food and drinking water since being isolated by the continued eruptions from Mount Pinatubo.
