Mr. Speaker. today I rise in recognition of Baltic Freedom Day. This dayJune 14marks the 50th anniversary of the beginning of mass deportations of citizens from Estonia. Latvia. and Lithuania. On the night of June 14. 1941. more than 60.000 people were taken from their homes. separated from their families. and transported in cattle cars to the Siberian camps where many of them perished. It is a matter of great sadness and urgency that as we stand here today. 50 years later. the horror stories continue. Earlier this year. Soviet troops were sent in tanks to Lithuania and Latvia. killing and maiming hundreds of civilians.
