Before that he served as the Bishop of Pittsburgh from 1983 to 1988. He became the Auxiliary Bishop of Brooklyn after being ordained a bishop in November 1980. He was ordained a priest in June 1949 after studying at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception. Throughout his life as a priest. the archbishop has had a special concern for the needy. He has worked hard to better the lives of immigrants and refugees to this country. As a member of the Bishops Committee for Pro Life Activities. he has worked to preserve the dignity of all stages of life. I have had the opportunity to work with Archbishop Bevilacqua on many occasions.
