Finally. the continuous efforts by the Amerlean Jewish community to assist In the release of the Ethiopian Jews cannot be forgotten. The hard work of the American Association for Ethiopian Jews over the years paved the way for this historic rescue of the remaining Jewish community in that country. I have great confidence that the American Jewish community will demonstrate the same unity and devotion to the absorption of these new immigrants as they have so successfully done with the hundreds of thousands of new Soviet immigrants who have arrived in Israel and the United States. These new Ethiopian Immigrants have been greeted with open arms and open hearts by every Israeli citizen. The defining purpose of the Jewish State as home for Imperilled Jews throughout the world has been poignantly reaffirmed. We can all be thankful for that.
