I was privileged to witness the State of Israel fulfilling once again its historic function of welcoming strangers. welcoming Jews from around the world. In this case. it was the airlifting of 14.500 Jews from Ethiopia. Mr. Speaker. people who were fleeing drought. famine. persecution. antiSemitism. and desperately hoping and striving to reach the State of Israel. which they did as I was there. In the course of a very exciting experience. a heartwarming experience. of talking to these refugees. talking to the beautiful kids. we had the opportunity to meet with the President of Israel.
