Yet for our own neighbor in our own hemisphere we have difficulty saying yes to free trade with Mexico. a friend. Mr. Speaker. the vote today is whether we are going to become isolationist. we are going to shut our doors to a stronger hemisphere. Why is it in our best interest to have a freetrade agreement with Mexico? First. it is more jobs and more markets for the United States. For $1 billion in exports we get 22.000 new jobs in this country. We limit immigration from Mexico coming into the United States. protecting American workers. The world is moving into trading blocs: Europe in 1992. the Pacific Rim. We need to do the same in our hemisphere.
