Speech #1020029060

Mr. Speaker. The California Trail is the route of the greatest mass migration in American history. starting from points along the Missouri River to the California Trail. and was used by settlers and prospectors in their emigration west during the mid1880s. The trail is 5.665 miles long. and the trail ruts and traces can still be seen on about 20 percent of the trail. Parts of the California Trail also are similar to an area that has also been designated. known as the Oregon and Mormon National Historic Trails. but nevertheless this does represent a designation of 3.800 new miles of California Trail that have not been recognized but for this legislation.
