Mr. Speaker. the State Department has reportedly declined to give former Iranian President BaniSadr a visa to visit the United States to promote his new book. "My Turn to Speak." a book which alleges that highlevel operatives of the ReaganBush Presidential campaign negotiated with Iran to delay the release of American hostages in 1980 and 1981 in return for arm sales by the United States Government when Reagan took office. Perhaps the State Department is not trying to silence the former Iranian President. but in light of the controversy surrounding the alleged secret deals between the ReaganBush campaign and the Government of Iran. the Departments attempt to exclude BaniSadr certainly looks suspicious. especially since BaniSadr was publicly opposed to the hostagetaking.
