Beverly Yip. founder and executive director of the Union of Pan Asian Communities [UPAC] in San Diego. CA. When Beveriy Yip founded UPAC in 1974. San Diego was home to only a few Asian Immigrants from China. Japan. Korea. Samoa. Guam. and the Philippines. However. the need for cooperation and unity within the Asian community soon became urgent as refugees and Immigrants from Southeast Asia swelled the number of needy Asians In the San Diego area. What began as a small organization serving a limited community now was faced with the challenge of providing service to thousands. Under Beverly Yips leadership.
