Speech #1020024970

We often forget. however. that for every act of horror and evil that was perpetrated during the Nazi era. there was an act of heroism and kindness. Indeed. there are many heartening stodes of good men and women and their brave defiance of Nazi transgressions against humanity. The life of Varian Fry Is such a story. Although Mr. Fry Is no longer with us. his heroic fight against nazism will long be remembered. Responsible for saving the lives of more than a thousand refugees. this past week he was posthumously awarded the Elsenhower Liberation Medal during the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Councils Days of Remembrance 1991. The event took place In the rotunda of our National Capitol.
