Session #102 · 1991–93

Speech #1020023190

I am now hopeful that President Bush will follow through with his efforts to resolve the Cyprus conflict. which remains as an obstacle to relations between the United States and Turkey. If the President makes the Cyprus conflict a priority of our foreign policy. then I am sure our government can assist in efforts to make meaningful progress on this Issue. One starting point that could lead to a breakthrough in the Cyprus conflict concerns the repatriation of refugees who were forced out of cities such as Varosha and Famagusta after the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. Since 1974. Turkish troops have kept Varosha and Famagusta sealed off from their former.
