Session #102 · 1991–93

Speech #1020021875

I rise today to speak as part of a Congressional Call to Conscience Vigil for Soviet Jews. As we all know. the Soviet Union has made progress in recent years toward a freer and more democratic way of life for its people. Unfortunately. these freedoms have yet to be extended to Soviet Jews. While an increasing number of Jews are being allowed to emigrate from the Soviet Union. many are still being denied the freedom to move to a new home. Those that remain are forced to do so without any explanation from the Soviet Government and often suffer further persecution. I would like to share with you a typical example of a Jewish refusenik.
