Rabbi Poupko has worked to mobilize public support for Soviet Jewry. and has been a tireless advocate vor the rights of Soviet Jews to emigrate freely from the U.S.S.R. Through Rabbi Poupkos efforts. the Shasre Torah Congregation became the first synagogue to display across its doorway the now famous "Save Soviet Jewry" banner. He has spoken to groups around the world as a multilingual author. teacher. and lecturer.
