Session #102 · 1991–93

Speech #1020014600

They cannot afford it. I was in Israel about 18 months ago. and it was quite clear to me the amount of money. the amount of preparedness they spend for their defenses. Their economy is in particularly tough shape right now because of increased immigration and the housing and the other benefits that they have to provide to the new arrivals. It seems to me this is the minimum that we can do to one of our greatest friends. to one of the few democracies in the Middle East in that part of the world. and to a country that has consistently sided with the United States. I think this amendment is wrongly placed today.
