Mr. President. on behalf of Senator SIMPSON and myself. I have introduced today a bill to provide special immigrant status for certain aliens who have served honorably in the Armed Forces of the United States for 12 years. This bill passed the House of Representatives in the last Congress. was approved by our Subcommittee on Immigration and Refugee Affairs as well as the Judiciary Committee and was cleared on all sides for final action by the Senate. Regretably. for totally extraneous reasons unrelated to the merits of the bill. the clock ran out in the waning days of the Senate last October before final action could be completed on this legislation.
